Early out
Earlier this April Mr. Jahnke took thirteen Mountain Lake Public School students to Windom to participate in two honor bands: Six of our students were in the First Year Honor Band, and seven in the Second Year Honor Band. Each Honor Band consisted of 80 students from area schools. These bands rehearsed in the morning and presented a wonderful concert in the early afternoon.

This year Mountain Lake brought 31 students in 7 teams to compete and participate in the 97th Minnesota State FFA Convention. We had a great showing with a range of students from 7th grade all the way to seniors. The Agronomy team placed 2nd overall for the 3rd year in a row with Kathryn Wassman as the overall individual state champion. The Food Science team placed 3rd. We had a 7th grade student (Ethan Junker) compete in Best Informed Greenhand (B.I.G.) and placed 9th out of 352 contestants! We had 6 members earn their State FFA Degree on Monday Night. In addition, we had 3 members participate in the State FFA Band & Choir.

On Friday Anatomy students visited the Aamlid Family Human Anatomy Lab on the campus of South Dakota State University today. They were able to observe and learn from 5 human cadavers, various teaching assistance and professors. Special thanks for the South Dakota State University Human Anatomy department for affording our students this opportunity, and to the SDSU Student Services team who took them on a tour prior to our Anatomy lab experience. Transportation for this trip was funded through the Mountain Lake Care And Share’s Community Giving Grant.

Our Literacy Event was a huge success and so much fun! 📚✨

Students in grades K–6 were treated to a special performance as staff dressed up as their favorite book characters and put on an entertaining dance that had everyone smiling and laughing. What a great way to bring stories to life!

The best part of the day—each student was able to choose a book to take home and keep, helping to build a love of reading beyond the classroom.

We are incredibly grateful to the Mountain Lake Area Foundation, The Robert and Helen Remick Charitable Foundation Trust, Big Bend Wind, and Apex Clean Energy for making these book purchases possible. Your generosity is helping inspire young readers and support literacy in our school! ❤️📖

🛼 Rolling into FUN at Mountain Lake Elementary! 🛼

Our students have been gliding, spinning, and smiling their way through our roller skating unit in PE—and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from Big Bend Wind! 💨

Thanks to their generous grant, our gym has turned into a place full of movement, laughter, and confidence-building moments on wheels. We are so grateful for community partners who help make experiences like this possible for our students!
